North Smithfield, Rhode Island Police called us for assistance to help get a vehicle out of the town water supply reservoir. The vehicle's operator was apparently not familiar with the small winding roadway and missed a corner causing the vehicle to go airborne and land directly into the town drinking water supply. Upon arrival of the scene the fire department approached us and explained of the situation that the vehicles fuel tank was resting on rocks maybe an inch above the water line, he asked us to please be careful not to cause additional damage that would make fluids leak into the reservoir causing a major issue with the town's drinking water. We realized that there was no way of winching this vehicle out of its current location, it would have to be gently lifted. We brought in our single axle Challenger mounted on the Ford Louiville to get the job done. We moved all surrounding rocks and other items so that we were able to send two straps underneath the vehicle creating a lifting sling. The vehicle was lifted out of its hole onto the roadway and loaded onto one of our carriers. We caused no additional damage to the vehicle and no fluids leaked what so ever. The vehicle was brought back to our shop and was actually able to be driven under its own power. Total recovery time was 1.9 hours start to finish using two trucks. Preferred Towing and Recovery would like to thank recovery specialist David, Chris and Mark for a job well done.

September 17 + 18, 2005

Lincoln, Rhode Island, The entire staff of Preferred Towing and Recovery helped the victims of Hurricane Katrina by standing along the main roadway in front of our shop for two days collecting food, clothing, furniture, water, monetary donations etc.. We had canvassed the neighborhoods with flyers the week before to make them aware of our upcoming event. We had close to twenty volunteers helping making this a very successful event helping those in need. We had our employees, their families and even friends show up to help out. This was originally supposed to be a one day event from 8am until 4pm on Saturday the 17th, but the response was overwhelming, we stayed until almost 7pm that evening, many asked if they could come back and drop off donations the following day, so we agreed that we would set up again on Sunday morning and try to help out a little more.. We filled an entire trailer load of donations that were sent south to the victims in need and we were able to collect about 1500.00 in cash and checks, which we matched and were able to donate close to $3000.00 to the American Red Cross. It really felt good having everyone help out, and we felt that it was a very successful event, thanks to all those that helped in different ways.

New England Floods from over a week of heavy rain and wind, Preferred was there helping people by getting their vehicles removed from flooded areas. We winched out close to 30 vehicles, many were total losses from being totally submerged. Preferred was able to recover many cars and large trucks. In some cases we were able to save them before they were submereged.. Our heart goes out to all those that were affected during these troubling times. Photos soon to follow..
